DENVER: With Colorado homeowners in need of property tax relief without further harming public schools trying to recover from decades of fiscal neglect, the ProgressNow Colorado Board of Directors voted to endorse Proposition HH, the referred measure on the ballot in Colorado this November addressing the explosive appreciation of home values while backfilling lost revenue for school districts. ProgressNow Colorado is also endorsing Proposition II to allow the state to retain nicotine tax revenue already collected to fund preschool programs.

“Colorado homeowners could face a crushing increase in property taxes unless voters pass Proposition HH this November,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Sara Loflin. “Proposition HH is a sensible plan to protect homeowners from a massive property tax increase while ensuring that Colorado’s property tax-dependent public schools don’t lose out in the deal. Proposition HH is a balanced solution to a complicated problem, and it’s our job to challenge conservative misinformation about this measure and give Colorado voters the information they need to make the responsible decision to vote YES on Proposition HH.”

“Proposition II is a small but important ballot measure that simply allows the state to keep nicotine tax funds already collected to help fund Colorado preschool programs,” said Loflin. “Colorado voters have overwhelmingly supported nicotine taxes to fund education and health care in recent elections, and it should be an easy decision for voters to let the state keep and put to good use the tax revenue they’ve already collected.”
