DENVER: After Black and Latino representatives in the Colorado House walked off of the floor today, ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest multi-issue progressive advocacy organization, voiced their support for lawmakers in a hostile work environment caused by far-right lawmakers launching personal, openly racist and at times threatening attacks on their colleagues.

“No one should feel threatened in their place of work,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Sara Loflin. “All members should be respected, being equal representatives of Colorado residents who expect them to work together on solutions to the problems our state faces. This year, the far right has made a vitriolic mockery of floor debates and authored hateful social media posts personally attacking their colleagues. This most recently has given way to unprecedented false and race-baiting character assassination against fellow lawmakers that would have been unacceptable in previous years.”

“Reps. Ryan Armagost and Brandi Bradley represent the worst of political discourse in the MAGA era,” said Loflin. “It’s disappointing but not surprising to see the Republican party and conservatives devolve into behavior that is deplorable and counterproductive to actually getting work done for Coloradans. Rep. Bradley’s recent outrageous attacks on Jewish lawmakers and the LGBTQIA community, questioning their identity and heritage for cheap political points, are beneath not just the standards of the Colorado General Assembly but any kind of civil discourse in American politics.”
