DENVER: Responding to the decision by the U.S. Supreme Court today granting former President Donald Trump access to Colorado’s presidential primary ballot after the Colorado Supreme Court disqualified Trump under the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest multi-issue progressive advocacy organization, applauded the Republican and unaffiliated plaintiffs in the Trump v. Anderson case and Colorado’s brave stand for the integrity of the U.S. Constitution against all odds.

“The Supreme Court decided to ignore Donald Trump’s role in the 2021 insurrection to prevent the peaceful transfer of power,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Sara Loflin. “The 14th Amendment is clear that insurrectionists cannot run for President of the United States. Today, the Supreme Court ruled that only Congress can enforce this provision.”

“The facts are clear,” said Loflin. “Donald Trump led an insurrection against the American people on January 6th, 2021, and has promised to pardon many of those who assaulted the U.S. Capitol that day. The Colorado Supreme Court ruled that Trump incited an insurrection, and our polling showed Colorado voters overwhelmingly approved of the decision. This November, democracy itself is on the ballot. We thank Secretary Griswold and the nine unaffiliated and Republican Colorado voters who stood up for our Constitution against all odds.”
