DENVER: Today, the US House of Representatives passed Donald Trump’s hateful budget reconciliation bill, and Colorado’s most vulnerable member of Congress Gabe Evans continues to lie to his constituents. ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest multi-issue advocacy organization issued the following statement, calling on Evans to tell the truth about a bill he helped to shape and has now voted for three times:

“As nearly half a million Coloradans stand to lose their Medicaid services and see their costs rise after Gabe Evans helped design the bill to cut hundreds of millions in SNAP benefits designed to feed hungry children and families, and farmers and ranchers will see an end to their renewable energy tax credits, the harm inflicted by the Congressman from Colorado’s 8th Congressional district is unprecedented,” said Sara Loflin, executive director of ProgressNow Colorado. “It is time for Evans to stop sidestepping his constituents, stop deflecting blame, and stop lying to his district. He voted to take health care from thousands of people in his district. He voted to make children and families go hungry; and he voted to kill Colorado jobs in favor of handcuffing abuelas and children.”

“The passage of the budget reconciliation bill means that Colorado could and will lose billions of dollars per year in funding for health care, rural hospitals, SNAP benefits, and renewable energy tax credits,” said Loflin. “Throughout this entire process, Evans has defended and stood by Donald Trump and Mike Johnson, while actively harming the people of the Eighth Congressional District and Colorado. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, Colorado stands to lose around $1.4 billion per year on the Medicaid cuts alone.”

“Shame on Representative Evans who voted for massive cuts to healthcare to pay for tax breaks for the ultra-rich and big corporations – and continues to misrepresent the impact this bill will have,” said Adam Fox, Colorado Consumer Health Initiative deputy director. “Clinics and hospitals will be forced to reduce services or close completely, taking away care from entire communities, and Evans could have stopped this. It will be on his hands as thousands of his constituents have their health coverage terminated and those fighting cancer, older adults in nursing homes, people living with disabilities, veterans, children, low and moderate-income families, and small businesses/entrepreneurs – will get sicker and some will ultimately be killed by this bill. Make no mistake, Rep. Evans and his fellow Republicans now own America’s broken healthcare system and the suffering it will inflict for years to come.”
