DENVER: A new Mountaineer Research exit poll conducted by Global Strategy Group for ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest multi-issue progressive advocacy organization, helps explain the persistent strength of Colorado Democrats in Colorado despite a historic win for Republicans at the federal level and nationwide in the 2024 elections. Colorado voters responded strongly to a constitutional amendment to protect abortion rights, held on to historic majorities in the Colorado House and Senate, and delivered the state comfortably for Vice President Kamala Harris.

“Once again, Colorado has proven a model not just for progressive change, but resilience even on one of the most frustrating election nights in our nation’s history,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Sara Loflin. “As we begin the process of assessing what happened in this year’s elections nationwide, and recommitting ourselves to voters who drifted away, an important part of the story is how Colorado persevered despite national trends, rejected Donald Trump for a third consecutive election, and passed constitutional protections for abortion rights and marriage equality.”
“This poll shows clearly that Donald Trump and Lauren Boebert remain anchors for the Republican brand, and that the issue of abortion rights remains a powerful motivator for unaffiliated voters in our state,” said Loflin. “Colorado voters agree that the Republican Party’s radical turn in the Trump era has left them unable to respond to the issues we care about as a state, and dangerously out of touch on issues like health care, education, and climate change. Once again, Colorado blazed a trail back from the political brink for the rest of the nation to follow in two years.”
