AURORA: As disgraced convicted felon ex-President Donald Trump arrives in Colorado today to spread lies about Aurora that even the city’s Republican mayor has repeatedly condemned as false and hurtful to his community, ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest multi-issue progressive advocacy organization, joined with a multitude of local community and business leaders and elected officials on both sides of the aisle to reject Trump’s racist lies and invite the world to see for themselves that Aurora has in no way “fallen.”
“We are surprised that Trump is coming here today, since visiting Aurora is the fastest way to disprove Donald Trump’s dangerous and outrageous lies,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Sara Loflin. “Donald Trump is only here to continue to lie while barely setting foot in the city of Aurora or even Colorado at a luxury $500-a-night resort.”
“Trump’s racist lies about Aurora are part of his Agenda 47/Project 2025 platform to restrict women’s rights and to forcibly deport millions of people, starting with Latinos in states like Colorado,” said Loflin. “Donald Trump depends on these racist falsehoods to intimidate people of color from participating in elections and exercising their right to vote. In our lifetimes, there has never been a President as willing as Trump is to foment hate and violence among his supporters.”
“Running in a deadlocked race for Colorado’s most competitive congressional district, Gabe Evans’ pandering to Trump’s false ‘Aurora Has Fallen’ narrative is nothing short of catastrophic,” said Loflin. “Gabe Evans’ open call today for a puppet Congress under another Trump presidency confirms the worst fears of every voter that he intends to impose his extreme agenda on the rest of Colorado. Evans’ appearance with Trump today means he is perfectly willing to subsidize Trump’s lies as a candidate and will be another partisan cog in the MAGA machine if elected to Congress.”
“As Coloradans, we are grateful to Gov. Jared Polis and other elected officials who defended Colorado, and the pride we have in our state, against these falsehoods,” said Loflin. “Unfortunately, Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman is partly responsible for today’s spectacle by pandering to Trump’s base before realizing his job was to defend the city he represents. Residents of Aurora should be asking if their mayor is capable of standing up for their city if he won’t even stand up for himself.”
“In reality, Trump is badly losing Colorado in every poll taken of the race so far, and the contrast between Trump’s lies and the reality in the vibrant and prospering city of Aurora, Colorado will lead the evening news from coast to coast tonight,” said Loflin. “By every realistic political measurement, today’s rally was a huge strategic blunder for the Trump campaign.”
