GREELEY: Condemning Gabe Evans’ decision to skip tonight’s Weld County Latino Forum and his failure to protect women’s rights and children from abuse, ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest multi-issue advocacy organization, held a brief press conference just before the forum at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley this evening.
“Gabe Evans skipped this critical forum and does not appear to care about Latinas,” stated Sara Loflin, the Executive Director of ProgressNow Colorado. “Today, we need to call out the truth: Gabe Evans is dancing around it. He supports corporal punishment for young people, opposes Roe v. Wade, and would strip away Colorado’s hard-fought abortion access, which he calls ‘ridiculous.’ Coloradans aren’t fooled by his misleading rhetoric – he wants to control your medical decisions.”
“Evans skipped the Weld County Latina forum because he doesn’t want to share his opposition to women’s reproductive freedoms, public education, and helping Latina women,” noted Loflin. “Not only did he skip the forum, he also joked that he knows nothing about ‘that female reproductive care stuff’ because he ‘don’t got the right parts.'”
“I’m deeply concerned about the dangerous rhetoric from leaders like Gabe Evans,” said Elizabet Garcia Hernandez who helped organize the forum. “His anti-immigrant stance puts people’s lives at risk, promoting policies that divide families and erode the fabric of communities like Greeley. He does not represent Colorado values. We need leaders who will protect families, not tear them apart.”
“We need to take a hard look at the dangerous, extreme agenda of Gabe Evans,” long-time Weld Country resident Pres Montoya. “He is not just out of touch with the values of Colorado; he is actively working to take us backward, away from progress, equality, and fairness. Gabe Evans is an extreme misogynist who wants to strip away women’s freedoms. He praised the fall of Roe v. Wade and called abortion rights ‘ridiculous’ because, in his words, ‘he don’t got the right parts.’ His disdain for women’s autonomy is clear, and it shows in every policy he supports.”
Gabe Evans failed to show up at the Weld County Latina Forum which had a history of Democrats and Republicans attend. In the past Barb Kirkmeyer and other prominent Republicans have participated in the forum.
Last month, ProgressNow Colorado launched a website –- www.womenagainstgabe.org –asking for voters to join the “Women against Evans” to hold Evans accountable.
“Gabe Evans represents the most dangerous type of politician, who won’t answer questions and is not transparent about his real beliefs when it matters,” said Loflin. “He’ll say anything he needs to win over a crowd. Colorado deserves better than Gabe Evans’ extreme agenda. We need leaders who believe in equality, fairness, and a future where everyone can thrive. Gabe Evans does not represent those values.”
Gabe Evans’ extreme record:
Anti-Freedom to Choose: “Life begins at conception. If the circumstances wouldn’t warrant killing a born person, the unborn also should not be killed.” [iVoterGuide, Gabe Evans, accessed 11/16/23]
Called the right to abortion “ridiculous”: Gabe Evans called the right to abortion “ridiculous” and proudly declared he is “about as pro-life as they come.”
F rating for Mental Health and Women’s Issues: Evans received a failing score from the Mental Health Association of Colorado and a failing score from the Women’s lobby of Colorado.
A Campaign of Extremists: Evans was forced to fire his top political director after her long record of extreme, racist, and violent statements was exposed by local media.
Opposes Public Education: Evans supports diversion of public education funding to support private schools, and promises to “break down” the Department of Education.
Outlier on Medical Needs: Evans was one 10 out of 65 to oppose capping the price of an EpiPen and also voted against capping the price of insulin.
Right-wing college crusader: Evans attended Patrick Henry College a right-wing radical college that encourages women to fit around their “husband’s career.”
Supports Trump’s mass deportations: “I think you have to, definitely, prioritize it,” said Evans when asked if he would support mass deportations under a second Trump administration.
