DENVER: After learning that freshman state Rep. Gabe Evans is refusing to attend a crucial election forum hosted by the Latino Coalition of Weld County and the Greeley Tribune, ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest multi-issue progressive advocacy organization, demanded that Gabe Evans apologize to the Latino community and the Eighth Congressional District and commit to attending the Latino Coalition of Weld County’s forum on the campus of the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley Wednesday evening.

“We demand that Gabe Evans apologize for brushing aside the Latino Coalition of Weld County,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Sara Loflin. “Gabe Evans appears to be more interested in parroting lies with Donald Trump about Aurora than answering the hard questions from the Latino voters of Weld County,” Loflin noted. “Skipping out on the Latino Coalition’s election forum while welcoming Trump to Colorado in the same week is a shocking insult against voters that Gabe Evans claims to identify with and cannot afford to lose in the upcoming election.”

“Just two years ago, even far-right Barb Kirkmeyer knew she needed to build bridges with the Latino community and made sure to attend the Latino Coalition of Weld County’s election forum,” said Loflin. “By refusing to show up and explain himself on fundamental issues from abortion rights to defending democracy, Gabe Evans is telling Latino voters that their votes don’t matter. Voters in Colorado’s most Latino Congressional district deserve better, and we demand that Gabe Evans apologize in person at tomorrow’s forum.”

“Gabe Evans’ continuous double-speak and banter about ‘not having the right parts’ to support women’s rights is an affront to every mother, working woman, breast cancer survivor, and LGBTQ+ woman in his district and in Colorado,” said Loflin. “His refusal to participate in a forum in his own district and decision to opt instead for pictures with lying Donald Trump deems him unfit to serve the Eighth Congressional District.”
