DENVER: As new reports deepen the controversy over a visit by Donald Trump’s presidential campaign to Arlington National Cemetery where federal law against using the site for political purposes was callously disregarded, ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest multi-issue advocacy organization, called on state Rep. Gabe Evans to stand with the Army and veterans across the nation and condemn Trump’s desecration of one of the nation’s most sacred memorials.
“Nothing is sacred to Donald Trump, least of all the final resting place of the nation’s heroes he calls ‘suckers’ and ‘losers,’” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Sara Loflin. “Using Arlington National Cemetery as a backdrop for a campaign photo shoot is totally unacceptable and in direct violation of the laws governing this solemn memorial. Photos of Trump giving a ‘thumbs up’ over the bodies of dead Americans are deeply offensive to our most basic values as Americans.”
“Gabe Evans has been trying to have it both ways on Donald Trump from the moment he announced as a freshman state lawmaker with no experience that he was running for Congress,” said Loflin. “Evans won his primary with Donald Trump’s endorsement, and Evans has run cover for Trump on everything from Trump’s felony convictions to the January 6th, 2021 insurrection. Now Gabe Evans is silent while the Army defends itself from the Trump campaign’s smears against employees who tried to enforce the rules. Will Evans make excuses again after Trump’s disgraceful behavior at Arlington National Cemetery?”
“If Gabe Evans won’t stand up for our most sacred military memorials, he’s a disgrace to the uniform he shows off in every campaign ad,” said Loflin.
