DENVER: Responding to the news of a violent assault on Paul Pelosi, the husband of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi in San Francisco this morning, ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest multi-issue progressive advocacy organization, released the following statement:

“Authorities have monitored an increase in threats of violence against public officials from far-right conspiracy theorists who believe despite the lack of all evidence that the 2020 presidential elections were stolen from Donald Trump, who like the suspect in the horrific assault on Paul Pelosi this morning believe election conspiracy theories and supported the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, 2021.” said ProgressNow Colorado Executive Director Sara Loflin. “These are the lies that Lauren Boebert refuses to apologize for even now, and that Heidi Ganahl promoted by selecting an election denier as her running mate.”

“The lesson of today’s tragic assault on Paul Pelosi is that lies are never victimless,” said Loflin. “We call on every right-wing politician who helped promote and perpetuate the ‘Big Lie’ and the seditious undermining of our democracy to condemn in no uncertain language the conspiracy theories from Donald Trump, and to stop minimizing the violence of January 6th and those responsible.”
