DENVER: Responding to the results of the Colorado Republican Party state assembly in Colorado Springs today, ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest multi-issue progressive advocacy organization, decried the victory of conservative firebreather Ron Hanks in the U.S. Senate race and derided Heidi “The Hypocrite” Ganahl’s embarrassing loss to perennial minor candidate Greg Lopez.

“Rep. Ron Hanks’ upset victory at the Republican state assembly is a wake-up call for all Colorado voters who love democracy,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Sara Loflin. “Ron Hanks is running for the Senate on an unapologetic platform of rewriting the history of the 2020 elections and restoring Donald Trump to office by any means necessary. As of tonight, Colorado Republicans are once again indisputably the party of Donald Trump, Ron Hanks, and Tina Peters. Hanks and Peters can no longer be dismissed as ‘fringe’ when they represent the views of a majority of Republicans who believe the ‘Big Lie’ that the 2020 election was stolen. Any Republican who tells you otherwise no longer speaks for their party.”

“As for Heidi ‘The Hypocrite’ Ganahl, today’s humiliating defeat by minor candidate Greg Lopez is an incredible display of weakness and disorganization,” said Loflin. “Ganahl had already qualified for the June 28th primary ballot, and participated in the assembly process in order to show bonafide support among the Republican grassroots. Instead, Ganahl looks like a hypocritical fool after failing to unite the party faithful and losing to an unqualified candidate with a mile-long train of baggage. Today’s loss by Ganahl to Greg Lopez shatters the myth of her inevitability and should raise serious questions with fellow Republicans about Ganahl’s viability in the general election.”
