“In Colorado, leadership and progress are about more than checking a box,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Sara Loflin. “Our state has been a leader in elevating the power of women since its founding, and we’re proud of the milestones we’ve accomplished concerning women elected to the legislature, new laws to work toward equal pay, and strengthened protections for working women from discrimination and harassment. But as we celebrate our hard-won victories, we must safeguard all that we’ve accomplished. Today we learned of the latest GOP threat to our shared progressive values: Heidi Ganahl.”

Ganahl just announced her intention to run for Governor in Colorado. If you haven’t heard of her, that’s intentional. Ganahl has largely stayed under the radar, and recently scrubbed her social media profiles — including those on the white supremacist sites Gab and Parler — to hide her track record of empowering extremists and opposing popular policy.

Here is Ganahl’s track record:

  • As CU Regent, Ganahl backed the hiring of John Eastman, a discredited, racist academic who helped incite violence at the U.S. Capitol on the morning of January 6th and is now under investigation by the federal government. (More on Eastman here)
  • While at CU, Ganahl has severely damaged the integrity of Colorado’s flagship university with “conservative affirmative action” programs to make higher education havens for extremist right-wingers

“On every single issue that matters most to Colorado families, Heidi Ganahl is on the wrong side,” said Loflin. “At ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest multi-issue progressive advocacy organization, it’s our job to make sure every voter in Colorado sees through the facade of Heidi Ganahl’s false image. Issues and policy are what matter when first impressions fade, and by this metric, Ganahl is a failure.”
