DENVER: Sen. Cory Gardner responded today to news that millions of dollars in defense spending set to boost Colorado’s economy would be diverted to fund President Trump’s wall on the southern border by blaming Democrats, instead of apologizing for breaking a promise Sen. Gardner himself made in March. ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest multi-issue progressive advocacy organization, released the following statement:

“This diversion of military funding from Colorado is a direct result of Sen. Cory Gardner’s vote defending Donald Trump–period,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Ian Silverii. “Gardner’s vote upholding Trump’s ill-conceived emergency declaration was so egregious that we thought it disqualified Gardner holding a position of public trust, and said so. The Denver Post went so far as to rescind their endorsement of Gardner over it. For Cory Gardner to blame others for his own broken promises, when they continue to hurt the state he’s supposed to represent, affirms everything his critics have said about him. His promises mean nothing.”

“Cory Gardner has been insulting the intelligence of Coloradans for five years as our U.S. Senator,” said Silverii. “But his increasingly absurd finger-pointing isn’t fooling anyone. This latest broken promise is just another reason why Cory Gardner’s day of reckoning at the polls in 2020 can’t come soon enough.”
