DENVER: Responding to news today that Colorado Republican Party vice chair Kristi Burton Brown will end her campaign to recall freshman Rep. Tom Sullivan of Centennial, ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest multi-issue progressive advocacy organization, called on Republicans with a conscience to take back their party and put a stop to the political chaos that has brought them to ruin in this state.
“The misguided recall campaign against Tom Sullivan exposed the biggest problem in Colorado politics today,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Ian Silverii. “Unserious extremists and outright grifters have taken control of the Colorado Republican Party. The problem has been festering for years while the local party establishment believed it could direct Dudley Brown’s mob to its own ends. Now the inmates have taken control of the asylum, and this latest humiliating failure for Colorado Republicans is the inevitable outcome.”
“The grifting operation disguised as a recall against Rep. Sullivan was doomed from the start,” said Silverii. “If conservatives in Colorado ever hope to regain the trust of the voters, forcing expensive, unnecessary, and meritless recalls against popular legislators who were overwhelmingly elected less than a year ago is a bad place to start. We hope they learn their lesson, stop these expensive and unnecessary electoral do-overs, and start working in good faith to solve problems for the people of Colorado. Enough is enough.”
