DENVER: With a new TV spot running from the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) attacking attorney Phil Weiser over pro bono work he performed years ago, ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest multi-issue progressive advocacy organization, called on District Attorney George Brauchler to condemn the ad’s outrageous falsehoods and request that RAGA stop running the ad immediately.

“In a year full of disreputable false political attack ads, the latest from George Brauchler’s dark money political committees in Washington is one of the very worst,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Ian Silverii. “It’s ridiculous to imply that an attorney presenting a requested legal opinion in a criminal case is somehow responsible for the crimes in that case. No one should understand this better than the Republican Attorneys General Association, which makes this unsubstantiated smear campaign against Phil Weiser all the more unconscionable. This is an insult to the intelligence of every voter in Colorado–not to mention every attorney.”

“George Brauchler doesn’t have a campaign, he is completely dependent on RAGA for his funding and campaign organization,” said Silverii. “Brauchler refused to take a stand against opioid manufacturers even after Colorado’s current Republican Attorney General, Cynthia Coffman filed suit. RAGA has received hundreds of thousands of dollars from opioid drug makers and poured millions into TV ads supporting Brauchler’s campaign. If George Brauchler can’t even tell his betters in Washington to stop running these disgraceful false ads, how can Coloradans expect him to fight for us on life-and-death issues like the opioid crisis? Colorado can and must do better than George Brauchler.”
