DENVER: As a new allegation of sexual assault from a Colorado resident makes nationwide headlines, hundreds of Coloradans gathered Monday outside the downtown Denver offices of Sen. Cory Gardner to call for Brett Kavanaugh’s withdrawal from consideration to the U.S. Supreme Court, and for Sen. Gardner to apologize for failing to take credible allegations of sexual assault seriously in his rush to confirm Kavanaugh.
“The fact that we even have to be out here today to put pressure on Sen. Cory Gardner to speak out against Brett Kavanaugh shows that Sen. Gardner doesn’t respect women in his state or across the country,” said Fawn Bolak, Reproductive Rights Content Director for ProgressNow Colorado. “Senator Gardner continues to align himself with policies and political candidates that are actually dangerous to women and enough is enough. These men don’t care about justice, and will do anything to silence victims who threaten their political agenda. To Cory Gardner, the assault allegations against Kavanaugh are just another political inconvenience. That’s why he’s telling U.S. Senate candidates across the nation to defend Kavanaugh and to discredit the brave women who have come forward.”
“Yesterday, the world learned of another alleged assault by Kavanaugh, this time against a fellow Coloradan,” said Alex Ferencz, Reproductive Rights Outreach Director for ProgressNow Colorado. “The incredible bravery shown by these women—coming forward despite threats, ignorant presumptions, and intense media scrutiny—is proof that the times are truly changing. Justice for Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, Deborah Ramirez, and other women who may yet come forward, should now be the only priority of the United States Senate. The days of sweeping sexual violence under the rug in order to protect powerful men who commit these horrific crimes are over.”
