DENVER: Following the Denver Post’s report today [1] that former Trump strategist Steve Bannon met this week with Tom Tancredo, an anti-immigration extremist considering a run for governor of Colorado in 2018, ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest online progressive advocacy organization, released the following statement:

“After Roy Moore’s victory in Alabama, the threat of Tom Tancredo winning the Republican nomination for governor of Colorado looms larger than ever,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Ian Silverii. “Some Colorado Republicans want to keep Tancredo at arm’s length, just like Roy Moore. Some Colorado Republicans may pretend they don’t like Tancredo, but just like Sen. Cory Gardner embraced Roy Moore, the GOP will back Tancredo as their nominee.”

“Stephen Bannon meeting with Tancredo about a run for governor in 2018 is an ominous development,” said Silverii. “Most of America laughed at Donald Trump, and now he is President. Alabamians scoffed at Roy Moore, and now he is the Republican nominee for a U.S. Senate seat. If Colorado doesn’t take the threat of Tom Tancredo seriously, the unthinkable could happen here too.”
