DENVER: As Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump appeared increasingly likely to win that party’s nomination to run for President of the United States following a string of Super Tuesday election victories, ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest online progressive advocacy organization, joined a growing chorus of newspaper editorial boards and concerned citizens demanding that Colorado Republicans take a stand one way or another on Trump’s divisive campaign.

“In only a few short months, Donald Trump has progressed from an unserious sideshow to the greatest threat to American values in modern history,” said ProgressNow Colorado political director Alan Franklin. “Trump’s rise to dominance as the Republican presidential frontrunner raises grave questions about that party’s core values, and threatens permanent damage to America’s moral leadership on fundamental human rights issues from immigration to religious freedom. The threat Trump poses to our nation is like nothing seen in our lifetimes.”

“Here in Colorado, high-level Republican elected officials like Congressman Mike Coffman and state Sen. Laura Woods have already indicated they will support Donald Trump if he wins the Republican nomination,” said Franklin. “As Trump continues to win Republican primaries, a choice now awaits every Colorado Republican: to reject Trump and throw their party into chaos, or accept Trump and risk even worse for our country.”

“One way or another, the silence as Trump rolls to victory after victory must end,” said Franklin. “The stakes for our nation are much too high for our politicians to cower in silence.”
