DENVER: After a new statement from Republican Rep. Gordon Klingenschmitt on the domestic terror attack on a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, in which Klingenschmitt equated the shooter’s murderous actions with the care provided by Planned Parenthood to thousands of Colorado women and families every year, ProgressNow Colorado offered the following statement:

“Colorado’s right-wing lawmakers are tripping over themselves to bring shame on their offices and our state as a whole,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Amy Runyon-Harms. “First Rep. JoAnn Windholz claimed that the ‘real culprit’ in the attack on Planned Parenthood was the organization itself. Now her colleague in the Colorado House, Rep. Gordon Klingenschmitt, says both the killer and Planned Parenthood are possessed by the ‘same demonic spirit of murder.’ [1] Both Windholz and Klingenschmitt are attempting to excuse murder–or at least try to explain it away.”

“There is nothing about the terror attack on Planned Parenthood that can possibly be justified,” said Runyon-Harms. “These outrageous statements from elected officials in Colorado attempting to excuse the attack on Planned Parenthood must be condemned. We can’t let their shocking disregard for the law or dismissal of the brave men and women that work at Planned Parenthood every day to provide critical, affordable healthcare be the last word.”
