DENVER: As outrage from stakeholders across the state grows, including a strongly worded Denver Post editorial today calling for Republicans in the Colorado General Assembly to end their “dangerous games” with the Colorado state budget, ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest online progressive advocacy organization, released the following statement:

“The tactics we’re seeing this year in Colorado from right-wing legislators are really troubling,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Amy Runyon-Harms. “Gridlock and abuse of the rules to grandstand and make political points is what voters have come to dislike about Washington, D.C. Here in Colorado, we’ve always been able to put aside our differences and pass balanced budgets every year. But this year, that trust is breaking down as conservatives put their pet interests ahead of the common good.”

“Split control of the legislature doesn’t have to mean Washington, D.C.-style gridlock,” said ProgressNow Executive Director Amy Runyon Harms. “If Colorado Republicans are truly concerned about Colorado’s public safety, it’s time to pull back the reins on Senators Bill Cadman and Kent Lambert–who are bringing the people‚Äôs business to a halt to push their political agendas. This is not how we do business in Colorado.”
