DENVER: Following action in the Republican-controlled Colorado Senate today to pass ill-conceived legislation to make it easier to avoid childhood vaccinations, ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest online progressive advocacy organization, released the following statement:

“Today, the far right showed everyone what they intend to do with their one-seat control of the Colorado Senate,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Amy Runyon-Harms. “The so-called ‘Parent’s Bill of Rights,’ if it becomes law, will make it easier for unvaccinated kids to spread preventable diseases. This legislation will make it harder to educate kids about critical subjects like tolerance and personal responsibility. And, worst of all, this legislation could help abusive parents continue to abuse their children–something no one should ever want.”

“Once again,” said Runyon-Harms, “the fringe has won the day at the Colorado Capitol. We can only hope that the terrible agenda we’re seeing take shape in the Colorado Senate is swiftly killed by the House and that every voter in Colorado understands what they are trying to do. Elections matter.”
