DENVER: As embattled New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie toured with Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob Beauprez, ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest online progressive advocacy organization, again noted Christie’s record of corruption and called on Beauprez to disavow Christie’s ugly brand of politics before next Tuesday’s elections.

“We know how Chris Christie runs the state of New Jersey: with intimidation, cronyism, and reprisals for his political opponents,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Amy Runyon-Harms. “After Christie’s repeated trips to our state to campaign for Bob Beauprez, Coloradans deserve an answer: will Beauprez govern like Christie?”

Gov. Chris Christie has been embroiled for months in a controversy over traffic disruption around the George Washington Bridge, allegedly ordered by Christie’s staff as political revenge against the mayor of Fort Lee. Under Gov. Christie, New Jersey ranked 47th in 2011 for economic growth. Colorado ranked 14th for GDP growth during this same period. [1]

“What lessons does Christie have for Colorado other than economic stagnation and the kind of political corruption that gives New Jersey a bad name?” asked Runyon-Harms. “Colorado’s economy is recovering faster than just about any state in America, while New Jersey’s right-wing governor campaigns out of state and neglects his responsibilities. Instead of campaigning with Chris Christie, we call on Bob Beauprez to repudiate Christie’s brand of corrupt East Coast politics. That’s not what Colorado needs.”
