DENVER: As Rep. Cory Gardner released yet another ad attempting to deceive Colorado voters about his record on contraception and banning abortion, ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest online progressive advocacy organization, called on Gardner to tell the truth about legislation he is still sponsoring in Congress that could ban common forms of birth control.

“Cory Gardner is desperate to whitewash his anti-woman record because he knows the voters of Colorado are going to reject him in November,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Amy Runyon-Harms. “It’s ironic that Gardner calls the issues of abortion and contraception a ‘distraction’, and yet here he is releasing another ad on the topic attempting to run away from his record.”

A new TV ad running in Colorado from U.S. Senate candidate Cory Gardner claims that Gardner supports over-the-counter birth control. Gardner renounced support for the Colorado Personhood abortion ban ballot measures soon after entering the U.S. Senate race, claiming he didn’t know the measures could ban common forms of birth control. Despite Gardner’s renouncement of Personhood, he remains a co-sponsor in Congress of the Life at Conception Act, which contains the same language as the Personhood measures that could outlaw common forms of birth control. “Cory Gardner made his choice years ago to support banning abortion even in cases of rape and incest,” said Runyon-Harms. “The abortion bans that Gardner has supported–and still co-sponsors today in Congress–could also indeed ban many forms of birth control. It’s time for Con Man Cory to stop playing games with women’s health and tell the truth about the legislation he has proudly supported for his entire political career.”
