DENVER: Responding to the decision of Chief U.S. District Judge Marcia Krieger to throw out the lawsuit challenging Colorado’s gun safety laws, ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest online progressive advocacy organization, called on Sheriff John Cooke and his allies at the NRA-funded Independence Institute to apologize for their campaign to make it easier for criminals to obtain guns.

“Thirteen months ago, Sheriff John Cooke and his allies at the gun lobby funded Independence Institute stood before the press, and announced their intention to repeal common-sense laws aimed at preventing criminals from buying guns on the black market,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Amy Runyon-Harms.

“In attendance that day was a former candidate for Colorado House who had been convicted of a felony and arrested for firing two shots at his ex-wife. To this day, the plaintiffs in this lawsuit have yet to apologize for their campaign to enable people like Clint Webster to buy guns. But with today’s ruling, they owe it to the people of Colorado to do so.”
