DENVER: Responding to news reports of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s (R-Virginia) primary defeat by an underfunded Tea Party challenger, ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest online progressive advocacy organization, called on Representatives Mike Coffman and Cory Gardner to give up the destructive agenda championed by Cantor in Washington.

“Congressmen Mike Coffman and Cory Gardner have been loyal stooges for Eric Cantor’s failed agenda for as long as they’ve been in Congress,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Amy Runyon-Harms. “Tonight, the monster Cantor, Gardner and Coffman all helped create has claimed one of the Tea Party’s own former heroes.”

“But the real lesson tonight is this,” said Runyon-Harms. “Blocking immigration reform, shutting down the government, and denying women basic health care not only hurts people, it won’t save your political skin. Just like Eric Cantor, Mike Coffman and Cory Gardner have both pandered to the extreme right when it suited them, and then flip-flopped when the Tea Party was no longer politically helpful.”

“The end result,” said Runyon-Harms, “is that neither left nor right can trust Cantor, Coffman, or Gardner. Next January, all three of them may well be looking for work.”
